Merengue Dance

Created in the 19th century and enjoyed primarily amongst the lower social classes, Merengue’s popularity eventually attained wider social acceptance to ultimately being proclaimed the official dance and music of the Dominican Republic. As Merengue evolved into a more stylized form, it has become one of the most versatile dances, easy to learn and a great favourite at dance clubs and ballrooms.

It has a two-beat step and entails swinging your hips from left to right whilst taking small steps either in a circle or sideways and twisting and tying handholds in intricate patterns. Any music that has a consecutive two beat count can be danced to Merengue. At Elite Synergy you will be shown how to use this fun and easy dance so you can enjoy it at any social occasion you may be attending. It is one of my personal favourites and I can make any inexperienced student partner me in Merengue.
